DIN EN 1028-1 specifies the classification, general requirements, and safety standards for centrifugal fire pumps with venting devices that are specifically designed for firefighting applications. It applies to pumps with a flow rate of up to 6000 l/min and replaces earlier national standards such as DIN 14420.

Main Content

The standard defines fire-fighting centrifugal pumps as fluid-handling machines for water delivery that are manufactured individually, without a drive or couplings, for installation in fire trucks. It covers components such as the pump unit, venting devices, and labeling requirements for manufacturer information.

Warranty Points

Pumps must meet three performance criteria:

  • Rated flow rate at rated discharge pressure and a suction head of 3 m.

  • 50% of the rated flow rate at rated discharge pressure and a suction head of 7.5 m.

  • 50% of the rated flow rate at 1.2 times the rated head and a suction lift of 3 m

Current Version

The current edition is DIN EN 1028-1:2008-09 with Correction 1 dated January 2009, adapted to the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It includes 12 pump types with different nominal pressures and flow rates.
